Ways to Earn Credits

 

Course Credits:

Attend School regularly and be Productive (See “Productive Work Periods.”):

You can earn up to three credits per class per quarter with good attendance and work production.

 

Class Contracts: 

If you are in good standing and need a couple of extra credits in a course, see your advisor and teacher to work out a contract to earn credits independently. Twelve (12) hours of work equals 1 credit.

 

Senior Honors Program (SEM) for Seniors Graduating from Cal Hills:

Earn 50 credits by completing rigorous assignments, projects, etc. and passing a battery of tests. You must qualify and be screened for acceptance into SEM. You receive 10 credits in each of the following areas:  reading, writing, mathematics (not algebra), and social science elective.

 

Outside Coursework:

Adult Education Learning Lab*:

Talk to your Advisor to sign up for classes. Classes start during the fall quarter. This is a good place to make up classes you have failed before.

·        M-Th 1:45 – 3:45 p.m.

·        Room 314

 

College Credits:*

You may enroll in college classes while you are concurrently enrolled as a high school student.  One (1) college semester unit = approximately 3.5 high school credits. One college quarter unit = approximately 2.5 high school credits.

 

*A student can use a total of 65 credits earned through Community College and/or Adult Education towards graduation from high school.  Credits earned at another accredited high school are not included in the 65 credits.  A maximum of twenty (20) credits can be earned from Adult Education.

 

Work Experience:

If you have a part-time job and are willing to fulfill the requirements of the Work Experience Program by providing your pay stubs, you can earn up to 5 elective credits per quarter.  One (1) elective credit = 36 hours of work. 

 

Vocational School (CCOC – Central County Occupational Center):

You can earn an additional 2.5 credits per quarter, plus learn a trade for free. 

 

Athletic Team Participation:

Based on participation on a team sport, students may earn up to 3 credits per semester.

 

Student Council Representative:

Students who participate in Student Council and Student Council Activities may earn 1 credit.
